CDNetworks and NexPlayer Announce Interoperability

24 June, 2019

CDNetworks and NexPlayer have verified interoperability between the former’s content delivery network (CDN) and the latter’s media player for Android, iOS, Smart TVs, set-top boxes (STBs), and web browsers/apps. With this workflow, media organizations can achieve stable playback on all devices and platforms with minimal buffering times under a variety of network conditions.

CDNetworks specializes in media acceleration for live and video on-demand (VOD) content, helping reduce traffic congestion and broadcasting costs without compromising video stream performance. The construction and maintenance costs associated with large server networks in proximity to end users is typically too high for content providers to ramp up on their own. CDNetworks solves this problem by providing an extensive network infrastructure and ensuring bandwidth scalability to support millions of users across the world. Through interoperability with NexPlayer, CDNetworks can rest assured that the content they deliver will be displayed on end-user devices exactly as intended by the content provider.

NexPlayer is a multiscreen media player with the most advanced feature set on the market. Features supported by NexPlayer include low latency with CMAF chunked transfer, customizable ABR, offline playback with DRM, time-shifting, and fast start times. Through a unique partnership with Google, NexPlayer became the only Widevine player working across all Android and iOS devices while supporting both HLS & MPEG-DASH streaming. NexPlayer is also the only player for Tizen Smart TVs that is recommended by and codeveloped with Samsung.

“We are pleased to partner with NexPlayer and to help fuel their media acceleration and user experience”, says CY Lee, CEO of CDNetworks.

“We are proud to work with CDNetworks to address the all-important issue of buffering. It is a clear cause of user dissatisfaction that all video service providers must contend with, so we saw it as our duty to find an easily deployable solution,” says Carlos Lucas, General Manager of NexPlayer. “Minimal buffering is crucial to the success of OTT solutions, as customers increasingly expect access to content at any moment of their choosing with no interruptions.”
